What To Expect
One-On-One Instruction
Within the individual half-hour piano lessons, students receive personalized instruction adjusted for their age and musical level. We will cover content such as music theory, sight reading, ear training, and piano performance.
Developing Well-Rounded Musicians
Music theory plays a large part in playing the piano and is a key element within my lessons, no matter the age. Music theory includes: reading the staves (the lines where the notes live) and knowing the letters on a piano, undertanding key signatures, identifying notes and rests and their durations, and much more!
What is music theory, and how is it used in piano performance?
Music Theory and Tecnhiques you'll learn in lessons:
Notation
Recognize the different kinds of notes and rests and their durations.
Examples of notes:

Quarter notes (♩) count for one beat in the time signature $

Whole notes ( w) count and hold for four beats (equal to 4 ♩)
Identify the sharps (#) and flats ( b) within a scale (a repeating pattern of seven keys).
Examples of key signatures:

The Key of G has one sharp (F#) and no flats
Identify the beats (counts) per measure within a song and the type of note that receives one beat.
An example time signature:

$ time means there are four beats in a measure & the quarter note counts as one beat.
Recognize and play each within their key signatures:

Scales - a specific repeating pattern of seven whole and half steps

Chords - groups of three notes at specific intervals

Arpeggios - chords played one note at a time in a "scale."

Group Music Theory Class
Do you have a student who is interested in music but not necessarily piano, or one who is taking lessons but desires to take their knowledge to the next level? These small group classes would provide a deeper dive into the world of music theory and is applicable for any musician (pianist, guitarist, vocalist, and more)!
Class availability would be limited and grouping is based on age level. Depending on interest, there may be multiple class times offered.

Private Piano Lessons
One-on-one half-hour long piano lessons at my home studio in South Fort Myers. Students ages 6 and up welcome, beginner and intermediate skill levels! If you have more than one child taking lessons, they will have their lessons back-to-back.
